Seven months pregnant Carlisle shop worker threatened
Last updated at 11:26, Saturday, 18 August 2012
A man who threatened a heavily pregnant shop worker has been spared a prison sentence.
Graeme Anthony Thompson, 27, of Bright Street, off Newtown Road, Carlisle, had told Katie Blackburn – who was seven months pregnant at the time – that he was going to get her and would wait outside for her.
Diane Jackson, prosecuting, said that his behaviour had become “aggressive and intimidating” when he had been told he was banned form the shop.
He had sworn at staff, made rude gestures at them and pulled the lottery stand over after threatening to trash the shop, magistrates heard. Thompson had claimed he could not remember the details of what had happened because he had taken sleeping pills and lager.
Magistrates also heard that Thompson had not noticed Ms Jackson was heavily pregnant.
He was given a 12 month supervision order, enrolled on a six month alcohol treatment programme and given a 90 day curfew.
He was ordered to pay costs of £85 in addition to the £675 he already owes the court.
