Second attempt for Workington Town Council to set budget

Workington Town Council has been summoned to an “extraordinary” meeting to agree the budget.

Members had been due to vote on it last Wednesday but they have given themselves an extension.

The full council will meet for the second time on Monday (February 25).

Town clerk Chris Bagshaw said: “One of the key decisions they were supposed to be taking was setting the precept.

“They have decided they wanted to have another stab at doing the budget before setting the precept.”

The policy and resources committee will meet tonight to thrash out the budget.

The full council will then vote on it on the following Monday. Mr Baghshaw said: “It’s fair to say that, as a council, we haven’t really punched above our weight. If we want to be like Wigton, Cockermouth or Keswick we have to do a bit more and take on responsibilities for our own actions.”
