Marian Page, 57, of Southwaite, near Carlisle, has not been since Friday. Her car was found abandoned at Castle Carrock at the weekend.

Police and mountain rescue volunteers combed Gelt Woods, near Hayton, yesterday while an RAF Sea King helicopter circled overhead.

A force spokesman said: “We are appealing for Marian to get in contact with the police, her family or friends to let us know she is safe and well.

“We are very concerned because this is out of character.

“The last contact was on Friday with a friend and she has not been seen or heard from since.

“Marian’s car has been located in Castle Carrock. Police have conducted a search of the immediate area but have so far not located her.”

She is described as 5ft 4in in height, of average build, with short brown hair.

Anyone who has any information should call police on 101.
