Safety work at Carlisle motorway junctions

Safety barriers are being replaced at two motorway junctions at Carlisle next week.

The barriers at junctions 43 and 44 are being changed as part of a £100,000 Highways Agency project.

One lane of the carriageway will be closed in short sections for up to 10 days to allow the work to take place.

Work at junction 43, the Rosehill junction, will start on February 4 and should be finished by February 13.

At junction 44, at Kingstown, the work is scheduled to start on February 13 and is expected to be finished by February 23.

Highways Agency project sponsor Peter Gee said it was routine work to help motorists use the M6 safely.

“The existing safety barrier is old and now sub-standard.

“It will be replaced by a new, compliant steel safety barrier which will also enhance protection for bridge piers at the junctions,” he said.

“’The work should not affect drivers’ journeys but we appreciate that regular users of the M6 in this part of the world like to know what work is going on.”
