Take That star Gary Barlow gets support from Cumbria uni graduate

A former Cumbria university student will support Take That star Gary Barlow at his concert in Birmingham this weekend.

Lucy May Walker will sing live in front of 16,000 people on Saturday at the LG Arena during her half-hour set.

The 22-year-old singer-songwriter graduated from the university's Brampton Road campus in Carlisle with a degree in performing arts.

She has been working as a recording session singer and is aiming to move to London to further her career.

“I was a finalist in the Open Mic UK competition and recently released a demo version of my first original track, which has gained airplay on BBC Introducing and Big City Radio in Birmingham.

“Following my broadcast on BBC introducing I have been invited to a recording session which ultimately means I will become their ‘artist of the week’ and four of my live recordings of my original songs will be played on the radio, with the chance of being passed up the ranks and hopefully into the hands of a Radio 1 DJ.”

Lucy, of Redditch, will return to Carlisle next month for a special appearance at the university’s performing arts summer ball.
