Suspicious man approached 18-year-old woman in street

An 18-year-old woman contacted police after being approached by a suspicious man in Maryport earlier today.

The lone female was walking along Ennerdale Road at about 11.25am when she was approached by a man in a white Transit-type van.

She told police he offered her a mattress for sale and when she refused, made comments she considered to be inappropriate.

Officers checked the area but did not find the van.

A police spokeswoman said: “The incident is believed to be isolated but people are advised to use caution when approached by any individual that they do not know.”

Anyone with information about this incident should call Cumbria police on 101 and ask to speak to the duty sergeant at Workington Police Station.
