Police arrest man after Carlisle city centre attack

A man has been arrested after an assault that left the victim in hospital with serious head injuries.

The 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm in the incident that happened on Warwick Road, Carlisle, at about 11.30pm on Wednesday.

A 36-year-old man was assaulted and taken to the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, where his condition has since improved.

Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Inspector Craig Smith said: “We are making enquiries in the area today but we are appealing for anyone who was in the area to come forward. We understand that the victim may have been with a woman prior to the assault and we are very keen to speak to her.

“We believe the offenders ran off down Crosby Street.”
