Body found in Carlisle river identified

Police have confirmed that a body found in a Carlisle river yesterday is that of missing man Allan Atkinson.

The body of a man was recovered from the River Eden at Warwick Bridge at about 10.50am yesterday.

It has now been formally identified as that of the 60-year-old, from Carlisle.

Mr Atkinson had been missing since January 7.

His body was found by a member of the public. Police are not treating the death as suspicious.

Mr Atkinson's family are being supported by officers.
