A man, 20, was unharmed when his black Toyota Corolla hit a tree opposite Fred Bear carpets. It had mounted the pavement in a collision with a silver Ford Puma, driven by a woman.
A witness at the scene said: “I just heard a bang and saw a black car on its side.”
The crash occurred yesterday afternoon at the junction between West Tower Street, Market Street and Peter Street.
Police blocked the roads while debris was cleared from the area.
A telephone box and a bin were also left badly damaged.
