Rail passengers hit by engineering work

Northern Rail is reminding passengers that services in Cumbria are affected by engineering works this weekend.

The route between Carlisle and Newcastle is affected until 11.40am on Sunday as is the Settle-Carlisle line.

Replacement buses are running between Haltwhistle and Carlisle until the work is finished.

On the line to Leeds, buses are replacing trains between Carlisle and Appleby/Kirkby Stephen, according to information issued by Northern Rail.

Meanwhile there will be no trains running between Whitehaven and Carlisle throughout day. Replacement buses have been arranged for passengers.
