FIFTEEN members of the “Downie clan” will be running Race for Life this year in tribute to an inspirational and loving family man who lost his battle with lung cancer last month.

Generous charity runners in Carlisle have collected £1 million for Cancer Research. Race for Life has been running in the city for 10 years and with entrants already lining up to support the 2008 event, that total should be given a huge boost.

Last year raised £205,910. This year, it is hoped 4,700 women will take part in the Carlisle events, helping to raise £263,000.
