A TOWN council has moved a step closer to achieving quality status.
Cockermouth town council, which is working towards accreditation as a quality town council, will launch surgeries next month.
As part of the scheme’s requirements, the council must demonstrate that it communicates, consults and actively involves local organisations and members of thepublic.
The council’s bid for the gold standard has already seen the launch of a newsletter while a town council website is set to go live this month.
Sheila Brown, Cockermouth town clerk, said: “The quality parish and town councils scheme is a benchmark.
“The public would also know that we work to a certain level and that’s the attraction for us really.”
Len Davis, 68, of Windmill Lane, has been keen to launch the surgeries since he became a Labour councillor for the All Saints ward.
Mr Davis, an Allerdale and town councillor, said: “I think it’s really important to reach out to the people on our wards.”
