Probe into 'unexplained' death of Carlisle man continues

Investigations are continuing into the “unexplained” death of a man in Carlisle.

Two people have been arrested as part of an inquiry launched after Hugh Craig, 39, of Stonegarth, Morton, Carlisle, was pronounced dead at the city’s Cumberland Infirmary.

Detectives said Mr Craig was taken to the hospital by ambulance on Wednesday night from a house in Newlaithes Avenue, also in Morton.

The two arrested were held on suspicion of drugs offences. They were a man, 33, and a woman, 30, both from Carlisle.

The pair were interviewed by officers before being released on bail pending further inquiries.

The force has described the death as unexplained.

A spokeswoman added: “Police continue to investigate the circumstances of Mr Craig’s death. His family have been informed and the police have updated the coroner.”

Detectives are appealing for anyone who has information to contact Carlisle CID on 101.
