Postal times in Keswick set to vary in move to modernise and cut costs
Last updated at 15:25, Wednesday, 10 October 2012
Changes to Royal Mail services in Keswick could result in people getting their mail delivered at a different times.
Since Monday postmen and women have been using new delivery methods and adopting new delivery routes which could see customers receive mail earlier or later.
The Royal Mail has stated that the changes are part of a drive to modernise, maintain their services and to keep their prices low.
Under the changes many customers will continue to get their mail by lunchtime.
However, the delivery time will depend on where they live on the new delivery routes.
This could be later or possibly even earlier than current delivery times.
When mail volumes vary, the Royal Mail says it might need to adjust delivery arrangements and times.
The changes will be introduced in phases over the next few weeks.
The Royal Mail says that because fewer letters are now posted every day, it needs to organise its delivery routes to be as efficient as possible.
The Royal Mail is writing to every address in Keswick to explain what the changes will involve.
It is also investing in new equipment to carry larger items to customers “even more securely”.
The equipment will also reduce the risk of any injuries to postmen and women from carrying heavier mail bags.
Michael Dillon, the Royal Mail’s collections and delivery sector manager, said: “We are fully committed to providing a high quality of service that is as reliable and friendly as customers have come to expect from Royal Mail in Keswick over many years.”
Customers with any questions about the changes can call 0845 601 1399.
