Police station evacuated in dynamite alert

Carlisle’s main police station at Durranhill was evacuated this afternoon when a member of the public handed in what appeared to be a stick of dynamite.

But when an Army bomb-disposal team arrived from Catterick, they identified it as a dummy used for training.

Officers sealed off Brunel Way in front of the police station and diverted traffic for more than two hours.

The dummy dynamite was discovered among the possessions of a recently-deceased man in Currock.
