Cumbria police on duty in Manchester after shootings

Cumbria police officers have been on duty in Manchester to help their colleagues in the wake of the tragedy which saw two officers killed.

A spokeswoman confirmed they had officers from “a variety of roles” who volunteered to serve in Manchester after PCs Nicola Hughes and Fiona Bone died in a gun and grenade attack.

She added: “Our thoughts and deepest sympathies remain with the families, friends and colleagues of PC Bone and PC Hughes”.

More than 2,000 police officers from around the country have volunteered to cover shifts in Greater Manchester so GMP staff can attend the funerals.
