Police deal with crowd trouble at Cumbrian football derby

Police dealt with several incidents of crowd disorder during Workington Reds’ clash with Barrow.

Officers were drafted in from Carlisle after “a few” outbreaks of minor disorder inside the Borough Park ground yesterday, a Cumbria police spokeswoman confirmed.

She added that no arrests were made and the officers were called in as a crowd control measure.

There was also a heavy police presence in Carlisle, where Carlisle United took on Preston North End at Brunton Park.

Barrow beat Workington 2-3 in the Cumbrian derby, while United went down 0-1 to Preston.
