Police confirm identity of man found in Cumbrian river

Police have confirmed that a body found in a river in west Cumbria was that of missing man John Allen.

The 76-year-old, from Preston, went missing at around 9am on April 28 at Ravenglass Estuary.

A major search involving police, coastguard, Cumbria Fire and Rescue, CNC, National Police Air Service, and mountain rescue teams took place.

His body was found last Wednesday (May 15) at about 12.50pm.

His death is not being treated as suspicious.

The coroner has been informed.
