Police appeal after £7,000 theft from Carlisle jewellers shop

Thieves stole rings worth about £7,000 from a jewellers shop in Carlisle city centre.

Police say a gang of four struck at Jopsons Jewellers in Carlyle’s Court, making off with an expensive haul after targeting the store in daylight.

The group, three women and a man – all of Asian appearance – struck at about 2pm on Wednesday.

A member of staff at the jewellers said the gang had been so professional, the theft of eight rings was not noticed immediately. It was only after examining the CCTV in detail that staff spotted the distraction technique.

One of the women was dressed all in black and wore a head scarf. The man wore a burgundy jacket and a yellow top.

Anyone with information should call officers on 101.
