Police alert after reports of naked man on Carlisle bridge

Police were called to reports of a “naked person” standing on a bridge in Carlisle.

The man was reportedly drinking on the bridge over Castle Way, near the Millennium Gallery, while wearing nothing.

Officers were investigating but a spokesman for Cumbria police said it was likely that the man was taking part in a #neknomination – the latest drinking craze to sweep the UK.

Police say they have received numerous reports from concerned people about #neknomination, in which participants post videos of themselves carrying out drinking-related stunts in all kinds of places.

Chief Superintendent Steve Johnson said: “Whilst some may see it as a bit of fun, the consequences could be catastrophic.

“We are noticing that as the chain goes on, so does the intensity of the situations people are putting themselves in. I’d ask that people act with responsibility and that they don’t put themselves in danger.

“I’d also ask that if you receive a nomination please do not feel influenced to partake in any activity through peer pressure.”
