I'm not sure a casino would be a good idea - during a recession, and on Botchergate.
Who in Carlisle has the money to spend there? It'd be mostly drunks causing mayhem, so any idea of a James Bond-type classy joint should be put to sleep quickly.

Primark might help people buy a few bits of cheap clothing, but it's not going to tidy the area up, and takeaways and grotty bars aimed at Carlisle's increasingly drunk young, will make the area even worse.

Why not consider demolishing a few eyesores, turning the areas into small green park-type places, or at worst decent looking car parks, and when the economy picks up maybe a developer will want to building a reasonably good looking and profit making building.

There are far too many pubs/clubs in such a small area in Carlisle. The constant competition is too much. Instead of money being wasted to have a building stand empty for a couple of years why not look at what the city needs. Botchergate a few years bk was thriving, large shops and a shopping precinct. Something similar that coupld create jobs and bring prosperity to the city would shourely be better than yet another short lease club or two.

Something needs to be done with it! It's a complete eyesore as it is at the moment.

Just knock it down and make it into a big cheap car park, at least that way the site is makking money, instead of every venture that leases thiese buildings lasting a short term and then plan after plan is submitted, the planning office most have had hundreds of plans over the years for this building,

OR, extend the cinema to give a few more
screens.

And would everyone stop going on about Primark, nobody from Primark management is going to propose locating the store at the end of Bothergate away from the main town centre, and which other stores would this attract, Poundland superstore & a 99p Superstore, wake up and smell the coffee, or in Bothergate case the stale ale and
sick on the pavements

we dont want pub after pub,takeaway after takeaway in botchergate or any other part of this city centre. the place is over-run.we need the empty units filled,yes im all for a primark.but i would love to see some locals investing into the empty properties and some nationals. so come on give elsie a chance lets stick behind her.

Is Primark the be all and end all for people who comment on here? I cant for the life of me understand how people think a cheap clothes shop would be the saviour of Carlisle somebody please explain!! Also I cant understand why people seem to be so ashamed of Botchergate, every town and city has one, just be thankfull its contained at one end and the takeaways and bars arnt all over the city centre!

Sadly, that is the only sensible comment I've heard. Bet there would still be pools of sick all over it first thing in the morning though.

While your at it turn the civic centre into a giant drinking complex
