Person killed by train on West Coast Mainline

A person has been killed after being hit by a train on the West Coast Mainline.

The incident occurred near Oxenholme and British Transport police say the person - who hasn't yet been identified - died after being hit by a high speed service last night.

There was still disruption to Virgin, First Transpennine Express and Scotrail services this morning, with delays of up to an hour.

Replacement buses were in operation on some parts of the route. Services are now running normally.
