Samuel McIlveen, 24, of Carleton Terrace, Penrith, appeared briefly before magistrates at the Carlisle’s Rickergate court complex.

He has yet to enter his plea to the charge.

Magistrates sent the case to Carlisle Crown Court, where it will next be considered on March 31.

The charge was laid following a crash in which Robin Hewitt, 19, of Milner Mount, Penrith, died at Eamont Bridge in March.

Mr Hewitt was described by his family as a loving father to son Leon.

McIlveen was the driver of the BMW involved in the crash.
