Parking fine puts us off returning to Carlisle

A group of cyclists has been put off visiting Carlisle after their van was given a parking ticket as they spent more than £100 in the city’s Sands Centre.

Have your say

A small number of larger spaces for minibuses, camper vans, etc would alleviate this problem. Surely that's not too much to ask?

This would have happened anywhere lucky they wernt clamped or towed away read the signs and obey the rules and when they catch you, dont whinge

Hang on they broke the rules so why shouldnt they get a fine. Some people think they are above the law.

I'm sorry ladies but your comment that says you THOUGHT it would be ok actually is the nub of the problem.

You honestly don't know how you could have avoided the fine? I do, you could have parked somewhere suitable for large vehicles.

Just because you've done something for charity that doesn't mean you can just park wherever you want.

Tip for everyone, before you actually park somewhere check the signs for restrictions/parking times etc. Simple.

Sadly, this show the sensitivity of Carlisle City Council.. Charity event; people from outside the area.... Grab the money when you can.... There is a human side that should be considered and Carlisle Council have shown that they don't care. I have done the Hadrian Cycle way and places to meet up with support vehicles are limited.... The Sands is ideal.... but not if you have anything but a car.

as it says on the sign its a CAR PARK not a bus van or mini bus park and if they drive around carlisle with there eyes open there are signs directing you to the right parking places

A parking fine I got in Oxford deters me from returning there. Even though there were signs, they didn't register until the parking ticket reinforced the message.

They were taking up two bays! Of course they deserve the ticket. Carlisle would not have been the only city this would happen in either.
Cyclists - think they own the road and now the car parks too!

Parking - you can't win whatever you do. Parking enforcement to prevent all out chaos..if you have a car parking for your business you pay rates on this..even though people who are not customers feel entitled to use the space..sometimes all day..hence three hours enforcement rules...blue badges..yes some of them just park anywhere without thought to others, proper guidance should be offered and changes in yellow and red lines brought in..any argument that I went outside the city centre to buy my goods because I can park goes along with its also cheaper- a giant supermarket with everything you need..a normal human reaction..just remember the supply chain is screwed down on price and its the supermarket making the profit..if you can support the independants such as wine merchants and restaurants..
