Parking fine puts us off returning to Carlisle

A group of cyclists has been put off visiting Carlisle after their van was given a parking ticket as they spent more than £100 in the city’s Sands Centre.

Have your say

If you park illegally in any town or city you would expect to get a ticket - end of.

I find it particularly annoying when trying to park to find vans, mobile homes, large vehicles etc use two, three or even four spaces

"sands Centre member" @ slimming world
You should have gone to a super-free parking space...

(very few people will get that...)

alieshia?, did you park, when you say car park?.. did you park in a NCPC car park, ie: gala bingo, Iceland, Portland place carpark.. perhaps?.. Im not certain about this, but its a private car park, not a council one.. and they sit in their cars, in the pitch black, in 0 degrees, just waiting for that 1 person to make that mistake. I popped to slimmingworld on a wed eve at chapel st one eve, most expensive slimming world ive ever been to. cost me £5 to get weighed, then £40 for the ticket i received because i parked in iceland carpark at 7pm on a cold, snowey january evening. not a soul in sight, but parked for 10 mins, got a ticket.. he was so quick he couldnt even get my numberplate right!
(silly me paid it too)

Seconded, Johnno. Where is Dr. Joe when there is such a PR/media opportunity beckoning?

People are still parking in Carlisle!!!
We haven't been in the city centre in months due to high parking costs, not enough places and parking attendants.
We now only use free parking at shopping outlets, supermarkets and Amazon/internet for everything else.
Its saved us a fortune with half the hassle.
We are not the only ones. Carlisle council are doing wonders at killing off the city.

Wouldn't it be nice if the story read: Charity cycling group praise generosity of Carlisle after parking fine is quashed.

Michael Owen: Is it larger spaces just for British vehicles you want or will Europeans be allowed to park there too?

will the council be issuing tickets to the "travellers"(and i use that term loosely)that have parked at the back of asda? and who pays to clean up the mess they leave?

Rules is rules according to civil servants (A contradiction in terms if ever?) flexibility? forget it, common sense, not a chance.Spaces for larger vehicles would help to resolve the problem, but I suspect that that is a bit obvious.

totally agree with S Smith, we pay lifestyle membership of getting on for £400 a year, and we have maybe 30 spaces reserved for us, but its usually full when we arrive for class, some of the classes are an hour long, we have to pay for an hours parking and get into class 5 minutes early otherwise were not allowed, and yet the traffic wardens have cottoned onto this.. i walked out of class during warmdown as it was ??.56 and i knew my time was ?.55. and yes, there was a traffic warden hovering around ready to catch the gym members who have already paid £30 a month and £1 parking for an hours parking.. he was ready to pounce because we were a minute or two over our time.. sands members if youre reading this be warned!!. Council have to bring some money in and this is the way that they are doing it.
