Pals hoping to tackle Hadrian's Wall trek in three days

A group of work colleagues who like a challenge are going to walk almost 30 miles a day to complete the historic Hadrian’s Wall route for charity.
Terry Stockdale, Stephen Cox, Dave Crook and Mike Boyle all work together at the Stead McAlpin print works in Cummersdale, Carlisle.
They decided they all wanted to take on the epic route, from Wallsend in the north east to Bowness-on-Solway.
But due to their combined shift patterns they could only find a three-day window to complete the full 84 miles.
But rather than put it off, the friends decided to take on the hike regardless.
It will mean them trekking almost 30 miles a day, staying over in a hotel or B&B, then getting straight back up to walk again the next day.
Terry, 52, said it will be tough but they are determined to do it and won’t let their charities down.
The two causes they have chosen are Diabetes UK and the Tiny Lives Baby Unit in Newcastle – both charities close to their hearts.
“My daughter Megan was diagnosed with type one diabetes last year, said Terry, who also has an older daughter Emily.
“She’s only 12. She contracted a virus which affected her pancreas.
“She now has to inject insulin herself. She’s doing really well but it’s been quite a difficult time,
“The money we raise will fund more research.”
Dave chose Tiny Lives after his grandchildren were born prematurely in Newcastle a few years ago and received support from the charity.
The money they raise will be split between the two. Terry, of Eskdale Avenue, Carlisle, said at first they set a £1,000 target but they now hope their total could be nearer £1,500.
The men have been in heavy training for the challenge – which starts on Saturday, July 7.
As well as walking for miles around carlisle, Dalston and Caldbeck they also went on a training hike up Helvellyn.
