Owner denies dog was dangerously out of control

A dog owner has denied an allegation that her pet attacked a young boy in Wigton.

Michelle Louise Purvis, 38, of Ellen Close, Wigton, pleaded not guilty at Carlisle magistrates' court to the charge of being in possession of a dog which was “dangerously out of control causing injury”.

The court was told that the dog, a two-year-old male Staffordshire bull terrier type, had bitten a six-year-old boy in Purvis’s rear garden on June 21.

District Judge Gerald Chalk adjourned the case for a trial date to be fixed later this year.
