Outdoor cinema at Cumbrian castle

It's guaranteed to be hot in the grounds of a Cumbria castle this summer as it screens a classic film as part of a season of outdoor events.
The first in a series of screenings will take place at Greystoke Castle, near Penrith, with the screening of Some Like It Hot, starring Marilyn Monroe and Tony Curtis, together with jazz band Hotter Than That.
The film show, on August 24, will kick off eight screenings, part of Eden Arts ‘picnic cinema’ programme.
The arts group wants to encourage people to enjoy the outdoors and visit some of the county’s most spectacular settings, as well as stageing events which bring people together.
They said they had been “bowled over” by the number of people who subscribed to get details of the screenings and revealed the chosen films.
The second screening will be at Brockhole on August 25 when Grease will be screened and jive band Eddie Robins and the Sunbeams will keep the crowds entertained.
The musical theme continues at Acorn Bank on August 26 with Moulin Rouge and Balkan Blues and gypsy swing band Baksheesh, followed by Swallows and Amazons at Brantwood, at Coniston, on August 31.
The music will be supplied by reggae band Roomful of Mirrors.
Hutton-in-the-Forest, near Penrith, is the next location when the Royal Opera House production of Tosca will be shown, together with a string quartet, on September 7.
Grizedale Forest will host two screenings – Close Encounters of the Third Kind, on September 8, and The Blairwitch Project on September 22.
The cinema returns to Brockhole on September 14 with Mamma Mia and some 70s sounds. Tickets are £11 for adults and £6 for children. People are encouraged to bring picnics.
“The idea is to create fun, social events, said Heather Walker, of Eden Arts. “It’s not about arty films, it’s about doing something that can bring the local community together and creating an event.”
All locations will open from 6pm and will boast “well stocked bars.”
