Six schools in west Cumbria have been praised for their ongoing success.

Ofsted inspectors have carried out interim assessments at Fairfield Junior and St Joseph’s Catholic Primary in Cockermouth, Netherton Infant and Ellenborough and Ewanrigg Infant in Maryport, Derwent Vale Primary School at Great Clifton and Thornhill Primary School, Egremont.

Each of the schools was this month informed that the “good” rating handed to them in 2009 or 2010 has been sustained, therefore the next full Ofsted inspection will not take place any earlier than summer 2014.

Sir Michael Wilshaw, Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector, has written to the six schools informing them of their success.

He said: “Schools which are performing well are now inspected less often than other schools. This usually means that good schools are inspected once in five years, whilst schools that require improvement will be inspected between 12 and 24 months after their last inspection.”

A number of factors determine whether a full inspection could be put back.
