Ofsted joy for Cumbrian primary school

A primary school is celebrating the success of its latest Ofsted report.
Whitehaven’s Bransty Primary School has raised itself from a “satisfactory” school to one that is “good” in three years.
And nobody at the school is more proud than headteacher Joanne Fearon who said it was an honour to lead such a “vibrant” and “exciting” school.
“We have a school that thrives on the love for learning and that prepares pupils for their future ahead,” she said.
“I am a far-sighted leader and my leadership team are continuing to work on further improving areas in school, which excites us.
“I have excellent pupils to teach, a fantastic staff who support all aspects of school life, an active and engaged governing body, and very supportive parents.
“This mixture results in high expectations and ensures Bransty is a buzzing place.”
In all four of the grading aspects – achievement of pupils; quality of teaching; behaviour and safety of pupils and leadership and management – the school came out “good”.
The report said: “Teaching is consistently good across the school and sometimes outstanding. Teachers are enthusiastic and ensure that pupils are inspired to learn through exciting lessons.”
It added that the school has concentrated on improving writing, particularly for boys.
Mrs Fearon herself was praised by the government inspectors, who said she provided “good leadership”.
The school, which has 136 pupils, has a specially resourced provision for hearing impaired pupils.
The report said that the progress of disabled pupils and those with special educational needs make good progress.
The school’s Busy Bee Shop – which allows pupils to exchange their award stars received for their work of helping others, for items they can use in school – was also recognised.
