Last updated at 10:49, Sunday, 22 July 2012
At the grand old age of 82, Anthony McEntee was today pedalling his way cross-country for charity. The pensioner began the gruelling bike ride yesterday when he set off on the three-day coast-to-coast cycle ride.
Mr McEntee from Keswick is taking part in the Lake District Calvert Trust’s inaugural c2c cycle challenge, with 16 other riders. He has competed in a number of long-distance tours of the continent as well as eastern Europe and has cycled many peaks.
Lynn Healey, a Lake District Calvert Trust business manager, said that everyone at the trust wished Mr McEntee good luck and an enjoyable time.
Yesterday the group set off from Whitehaven and aim to arrive in Tynemouth, Tyne and Wear, on Sunday.
The riders hope to raise as money for the charity so it can continue its work helping those with disabilities, as well as their families and friends.
