A new youth theatre has opened in Carlisle.
The Whirlpool Youth Theatre is run by directors Tina Ewing and Vicki Maxfield and operates from premises in Denton Holme.
Both women used to work as theatre practitioners at Keswick’s Theatre by the Lake. They have delivered numerous theatre projects in settings, including schools and community venues throughout north and west Cumbria.
Tina said: “We aim to offer young people exciting new skills such as devising for theatre, storytelling, character development, improvisation and performance techniques.
“We have a simple motto ‘to share theatre with people’ but in a new and creative light.
“Young people can expect to take inspiration from many styles of theatre, to be creative and develop their own ideas and to perform pieces that they have devised themselves.”
Both Tina and Vicki are passionate about working with young people to be creative within an inspiring and supportive environment, regardless of their age, experience or background.
Tina said “We firmly believe that drama and theatre should be accessible to all young people – we don’t audition as it’s about enthusiasm and giving everyone a fair chance.”
And Vicki added “We also aim to be affordable as we don’t want anyone who really wants to have a go, to miss out.”
