Former Cumbrian headteacher's new role with education trust

A prominent former north Cumbrian headteacher has been appointed chief executive of a groundbreaking educational group.
Roger Alston is heading up the Northern Education Trust (NET), the first multi-academy trust focussed on the north of England.
It already has four schools under its management with talks about another four coming under its umbrella, and possibly as many as 12 eventually.
Mr Alston has been appointed because of his experience in education, including at William Howard School in Brampton and as part of a county council team that led a schools shake-up in Cumbria.
NET will be sponsored by Northern Education Associates (Northern Education), an education consultancy which has provided support to failing schools in more than 20 local authorities since it was established 11 years ago.
Academies managed by NET will operate with a strategy for delivering the highest levels of attainment in English and maths and will focus on “achieving outstanding governance and self-management”.
