New nightclub to open in Carlisle's former Mood building

A new nightclub is set to open in the building that played a major part in transforming Carlisle’s Botchergate.
Signs have gone up in the window of the now derelict former Mood nightspot to say that a new club – Wonderland – will open in December.
A Facebook group has also been created called Mood to reopen as Wonderland.
A message on the club’s new Facebook site says: “We are opening a new club in the building Mood once occupied.
“We will be having a VIP opening night Friday, November 30 and then we will officially open to the general public on Saturday, December 1. We will close again in January for a full refit.”
Pictures on the club’s Facebook page show it is in a bad state of repair and in need of investment.
A statement says: “It is so bad we can only open up a part of the club over Christmas and then tackle the rest in the new year along with a revamp.
“It will be similar to the old Mood in the way that different rooms will have a different choice of music. It will also be reflected in the rooms’ decor – there will be something for everyone.”
A licensing application has not yet been submitted to Carlisle City Council but a spokesman said they were aware that the club was planning to reopen.
Mood, which had capacity for 900 people, was among the venues which kick-started the regeneration of Botchergate after it opened in 2000. It was later rebranded as Mood2 after a £1m makeover. Shortly afterwards the business that ran it, Herald Inns and Bars, went into administration.
The club had enjoyed a colourful history.
In 2001 it was named British entertainment venue of the year, and became the first nightclub in the city to go smoke-free in June 2007.
Mood2 closed in 2008 and it has been standing empty ever since.

To Wonderland- all sounds good but can you not look at having an 80's music area? Something that is missing in town.

I wanted to register my objection to The Church Nightclub but couldn't find anywhere on your website so am placing it here. What bad taste for a town like Carlisle, I hope they are made to alter their facade.
