Stretch yourself a bit further this new year, and add a fundraising challenge to your resolutions.

Eden Valley Hospice is calling on the public to think of them in 2013, by either participating in one of the hospice’s events or coming up with their own fundraising challenge.

The charity offers support and care to both patients and the families of those with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.

Events already being planned by the hospice range from a high-octane sky dive to a Princess and Pirates Day.

Emma Marshall, fundraiser for Eden Valley Hospice, said: “In 2013 there really is an event for everybody. The hospice has added a number of brand new events to our fundraising calendar, including the Lakes Biggest and Longest, and a Dance Marathon, while we have refreshed a number of our popular events.”

For members of the public looking for a smaller – or larger – challenge, hospice organisers hope those people will come up with their own ideas to raise much-needed cash.

To help shoppers beat the winter blues and boost the hospice coffers at the same time, the Eden Valley Hospice charity shops in Carlisle, Brampton and Wigton is slashing its prices from today.

The shops – which include two bookshops and two general shops – stock a wide range of items, and prices will be lowered across the stores as they participate in the January sales.

Doors will open at 10am, and it is hoped shoppers will arrive early to grab a bargain.

Emma said: “Without the support of the local community, our dedicated team of nurses would be unable to provide the high standards of care.”
