Mystery over sudden closure of town centre pub

A Cockermouth town centre pub has closed suddenly.

The Fletcher Christian, on Main Street, hasn’t opened since last Thursday night.

Signs in the window say “items of value have been removed”.

It was owned by Joe Hancock and Jonathan Breeze and is an Enterprise Inns house.

Mr Hancock feared closure of Main Street for £1.7m of repair work would cripple the pub.

An Enterprise Inns spokeswoman said: “We are hoping to reopen it as soon as possible.”
