Mystery death of Cumbrian mum, 20

Mystery surrounds the death of a 20-year-old woman found lying in bed just a day after celebrating her birthday.
Linzi Vickers, of Hillcrest, Northside, Workington, was found dead in bed after she and her partner Neil McGuirk failed to collect their baby daughter Amelia from his mother’s house.
An inquest into her death heard how the young mum was born with a heart defect and took medication for her condition, but it was not clear if either had killed her.
Deputy coroner Simon Ward said it was a “tragic case” of a popular young daughter “loved by her family”.
The inquest heard how Linzi and Neil held a party the day before, on September 7, before going on to another house.
The alarm was raised the next morning when neither arrived to collect their baby daughter Amelia from his mum’s house and neither answered their phones.
Neil’s mum Janet Thompson told the inquest: “I thought it was strange that neither of them had come to collect Amelia so I went with my son David to the house.”
The front door was open and the pair found Miss Vickers in bed. They called an ambulance but she was pronounced dead.
The court heard that Miss Vickers, who had attended Nelson Thomlinson School in Wigton, was born with a heart defect and took medication for her condition. She was also on anti-depressants.
A report from police said tablet blister packets and torn up pieces of paper were found beside her.
The inquest heard that Miss Vickers, who had worked in Chasers Bar, had been merry but not drunk the night before she died.
She returned home in the early hours of September 8 with friend Dean Gorman and he checked she was okay before leaving.
Mr Ward said there was not enough evidence to suggest that either the heart defect or the medication had killed Miss Vickers, or that she had intended to harm herself.
He said: “This is clearly a tragic case of a young girl with a young daughter who was loved by her family.
“There was a note that was ripped up next to her but it is not clear when it was compiled but it did not explicitly say she would harm herself. She was celebrating her birthday but it is unclear how much she had to drink or what medication she had taken.”
He recorded an open verdict.
