Music festival crane driver suffered horrific injuries - court

A crane driver suffered horrific injuries because specialists who had been called in to advise on health and safety issues at Cumbria’s biggest music festival failed to spot the danger of having an 11,000 volt overhead cable running across a field, Carlisle Crown Court has heard.
Donald Berry, 46, suffered brain injuries and is still in “a terrible condition” after his crane touched the cable on the field at the Kendal Calling music festival in July 2010, a jury heard.
Jason Warren Piper, 47, managing director of the company hired by the festival management at the Lowther Park site at Hackthorpe, has gone on trial – expected to last a few days – accused of safety breaches.
