Murder victim found under floor in Cumbria

A murder has been uncovered in Cockermouth - more than a millennium after it was committed.

Archaeologists found a skeleton hidden under the floor of a Roman bathhouse and informed police and the county coroner.

It is believed the man or woman was killed and hidden around AD400, towards the end of the Roman occupation when the Derventia settlement at Papcastle was still in use but the bathhouse probably wasn’t.
