Motorcyclist airlifted to hospital after crash in east Cumbria

A motorcyclist has been flown to hospital with "serious injuries" after a collision with a car on the A66 between Brough and Appleby.

The 58-year-old man from Brough has been taken to the James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough.

The driver of the Citroen Berlingo car was a 51-year-old man from Kirkby Stephen. He was not hurt.

A police spokesman said they had been called out at 8.54am.

The road was closed between Brough and Appleby for about three hours. Traffic diversions were in place.

Anyone who saw the incident should contact PC Richard Bowman or Sgt Jo Walker, of the Roads Policing Unit, on 101.
