Cumbrian restaurant owner Simon Rogan, a BBC Great British Menu winner, will visit the Lakes College at Lillyhall on November 20.

Simon, who runs the Michelin-starred L’Enclume restaurant in Cartmel will work with college catering students to cook up a feast for their guests.

Earlier this year Simon appeared in the 2012 Great British Menu BBC2 TV series, winning one of the coveted final four spots to cater for a banquet to honour British Olympic athletes.

Simon first made contact with the students when they were offered the opportunity to work with him at his pop up restaurant in Dovenby Hall at the Taste Cumbria festival last month.

He said: “I am visiting the college to inspire the next generation of cookery students to take the next step into the restaurant industry.

“I want to show the students that if you work hard, the industry can be very rewarding.

“We are always looking to round-up the cooks for our future workforce too.

“I will be showing the students techniques that L’Enclume is renowned for as well as typical dishes, using seasonal vegetables from our farm and foraged ingredients from Cumbria.”

Simon has also told the college that he will continue to share his expertise with the students and will make plans for them to join him on work placements at his famous Cartmel restaurant L’Enclume.

Catering and hospitality manager at Lakes College, Lynne Marsh said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Lakes College catering students to work in collaboration with Simon Rogan.

“Simon’s involvement with the students will not just be limited to the college but will expand to his Michelin starred restaurant kitchen where the students will gain exclusive experiences that a select few only ever have with view to employment.”

The master class patrons will be given the option to attend a buffet lunch prepared by Simon and the students.

In addition to the master class Simon and the students will also serve an evening meal with wine in the college fine dining restaurant ‘La Rue’.
