History lessons at a Cumbrian school included a banquet, a performance of Macbeth, jousting and a bit of dancing for good measure.

It doesn’t sound like your average day at school – and that’s because it’s not.

Lowca Primary School held the Tudor banquet yesterday to celebrate a term of hard work.

There was a multitude of activities for children to take part in, from coming up with wordplay jokes to learning how many miles sailors might travel.

Headteacher Joanna Crawford said that the day was a huge success.

She explains: “We did it to try and bring the curriculum to life and the kids love dressing up.

“It was fantastic and it brings it all together.”

The school runs the curriculum on a four-year rolling programme and tries to make the different subjects interesting for children.

As well as the more fun aspects of the day, the kids learned maths skills such as how boats float and sink and how much things weigh.

And although the dancing might have been looked at with a suspicious eye by certain pupils, they were all having fun by the end.

“The first time we were doing dancing quite a few boys said they had forgotten their PE kit,” said Mrs Crawford.

“But by the end of it they said they would rather do dancing than football!”
