McFly to play Whitehaven Festival

Pop band McFly are set to play in Whitehaven. And demand for tickets is so high it has already crashed a ticket website.
Organisers of this year’s Whitehaven Festival have pulled off one of their biggest triumphs in the event’s 14-year history.
McFly played to sell-out crowds of tens of thousands all over the world and on Friday, June 21, will perform on Whitehaven’s harbourside.
Tickets went on sale today but already demand has crashed the festival's website.
"Its all down to the sheer numbers of people trying to log on this morning," said festival chief executive Gerard Richardson. "We can only apologise - we've got techies looking at it and hopefully we should be back up and running later today."
The award-winning band will belt out hits such as Room On The 3rd Floor, Obviously, Five Colours in her Hair, All About You, Transylvania, Party Girl and Star Girl.
Tickets – priced £39.99 (no booking fee) – are expected to sell quickly. They are only available online from www.richardsonsofwhitehaven.co.uk
Mr Richardson said there had been a lot of discussion before finally clinching the deal.
“I’m delighted it’s come to fruition – we started negotiations last October. The more in demand a band are, the harder it is to get them. We took a real gamble but it paid off and shows good things are worth waiting for,” he added.
The multi-million-record selling band consists of Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, Dougie Poynter and Harry Judd, who say they are looking forward to the up-close-and-personal gig.
They said: “We are delighted to be able to add the Whitehaven Festival to our gigs this summer. We have never played west Cumbria but we know they like their music events up there and it’s always great to play a new gig.
“We will be doing all our greatest hits and it will be a great gig.”
This year the band are playing their Memory Lane: The Best Of Tour 2013 across the UK.
The gig will be all-standing and there will be a support band on the night.
The harbourside arena will once again have a 2,000 capacity and this year, for the first time, the stage will face the sea.
Tickets for the festival’s Saturday night gig featuring Slade, The Sweet and Bruce Foxton’s From The Jam are also on sale from the same website.
The festival's main sponsors are Britain’s Energy Coast (BEC), Nuclear Management Partners (NMP) and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA).

Have your say
Well done whitehaven! Me an Shakkie are coming over, hope the McFly boys make some berserk noise!
I couldn't be happier about this. I have travelled all over to see McFly since they've been about. Seen them 9 times in total so this is going to be my 10th (IN MY HOME TOWWWNNNN!!!). I have Harrys drumsticks, Toms sweaty towel and Dannys water bottle so this time I will have to get something off Dougie then I will have a complete colection! I will be the one stood outside from the early hours to make sure I get to the front. Ohhh yes!
