McDonald’s wants to open Carlisle restaurant for 20 hours a day

McDonald's wants to open one of its drive-through restaurants for 20 hours each day.

Have your say

such a greedy company. no wonder the population is obese. opening at that time almost makes it worse as there are not many other options for eating arrangements so people will go there for easyness (although i cant think of many instances where many people will be choosing to eat there between those hours!)

Ridiculous to even consider the application. Even though it is technically on the estate, it is still opposite residential homes. If these extended hours are permitted it would certainly be a a nuisance to nearby residents with late night noise and extra litter that is thrown from vehicles not just in their own car park but all over the area. The council know what problems this would cause as they have had similar problems at St Nicholas over the years.

mcDonalds employ people to clean litter off the local estate which i guess they dont hate to. Its the busiest route in the town aswell. I bet more people go to asda during the Night than mcDonalds. The people objecting in my opinion hav nowt better to do.

McDonalds litter isn't just confined to the area around the "restaurant", it can be found all over the countryside within a 10 mile radius of Carlisle. This seems to be beacuse the kind of people who use drive-through facilities after 9 pm are the kind of people who have been brought up by their burberry-clad, baseball cap wearing parents to have no consideration for their own health or anybody else's decent standards of living. They race around the city streets at stupid speeds with deafening noise emanating from the windows, throwing their empty chav-food packets out of the windows. Keeping the place open until 1 in the morning is only going to make the litter problem worse.

i bet the seagulls will love it, they are frequent visitors to mcd's allready and spread the litter all over the estate for everyone that works on it to enjoy.
i wont moan at 1am when am hungry tho

This will be perfect for lorry drivers and others eager to pack their stomachs with burgers and chips in the early hours! Yum!

It would be interesting to know how much profit they have made from being open one hour longer at night, and thus how worthwhile it really is, or if they are just trying to push the boundaries. If I lived in the area I would be concerned that it could be the start of more 24 hour trading and thus a further increase in traffic noise etc.Vehicles starting up tend to make more noise than those just trundling by.

Hold on, isn't MacD's built on an industrial estate ? an industrial estate that is integral to the Carlisle Northern Development Route ?

Now I don't care if they open for 1 hour or 24, the fact remains that they are a business and it's their decision as to opening hours, as long as they fit within regulations. From what I can see they are asking to open longer, so that would suggest there is a need for their service for longer hours. So isn't it right to give a business the right to operate in an industrial area ?

Litter, unfortunately isn't the responsibility of the company supplying it (otherwise the supermarkets would be collecting out rubbish!), it is the responsibility of the customer, those making the purchase to deal with the waste. And from what I've seen, MacD's do take this more seriously than most, so give them a break. Deal with those perpetrating littering.

I would think that there is more noise coming from the main road running past the industrial estate than what a small fast food outlet will cause. After all, a 40 tonne truck rumbling past your front door at 30-40mph (yes I know the limit, but it seams many do not!) is a little more worrying than a car/van negotiating a narrow car park at 15mph ??

These people complaining live on one of the busiest streets in Carlisle, with traffic almost 24/7, a very busy industrial estate with trucks passing all the time, just down the road from a 24 hour ASDA and a stone's throw from the M6.

I somehow think that their objections to a longer opening McDonalds stems more from snobbery than any real fear about noise.

Litter can be an issue, but that's not McDonalds' fault; its the fault of the inconsiderate idiots who drop it. Film the offenders, make note of their number plate and post the litter back to them!
