Manslaughter accused in court in Carlisle
Last updated at 13:07, Monday, 25 February 2013
A man appeared before a judge at Carlisle Crown Court today charged with the manslaughter of one of his best friends.
Kyle Twentyman, 21, of Allonby, was charged after Raymond Pattinson suffered fatal injuries after being struck by a car on the main coast road through the village on the evening of Sunday March 25 last year.
Mr Pattinson, who was 20, and lived in Edinburgh Road, Maryport, had been working as a junior chef at the Old Postinghouse, Deanscales, near Cockermouth.
In a six-minute hearing in front of Judge Paul Batty QC, the Honorary Recorder of Carlisle, Twentyman spoke only to confirm his name.
He will not be asked to enter a plea to the charge until he is back in court on May 20.
In the meantime he was allowed bail on condition that he goes on living at his home in Main Street, Allonby, and reports to Workington police once a week.
He is likely to go on trial before a visiting High Court judge in November.
The trial is expected to last for three or four days.
