Man sexually assaulted woman in flat, Carlisle court told

A man has been accused of locking a woman in his flat before stripping all his clothes off and sexually assaulting her.

The woman told a jury at Carlisle Crown Court that she had to climb out of an upstairs window to escape after John Robinson, 44, behaved “like a really strange weirdo” when she went back to his flat in Wigton’s High Street last September.

She went to his flat after he invited her for a drink and, once inside, he took his clothes off and came into the living room, she said.

She added she tried to leave but found Robinson had locked the door.

Robinson has denied falsely imprisoning the woman and sexually assaulting her.

He said she was climbing out of the window because she had stolen £20 from him and made up the story about the sexual assault because she heard he was accusing her of theft. The jury are considering verdicts.
