Last updated at 13:07, Tuesday, 02 October 2012
The body of a man has been found in woodland in the Durranhill area of Carlisle.
Police are treating the death as unexplained but “not suspicious at this stage”.
The corpse was discovered by John Johnson, of Scotby Close, Carlisle, while he was walking his dog just after 1pm yesterday (Monday).
The dead man was found face down, with a blue rucksack on his back, in woodland between Cumrew Close and Eastern Way.
Mr Johnson’s wife Tracey said: “John called me to say, ‘I’ve found a body. I’m sure he’s dead he’s lying face down’.”
She went to collect their dog, Bruno, while Mr Johnson waited for police to arrive.
Paramedics were first on the scene and pronounced the man dead. Police cordoned off the area and are investigating the death.
A force spokeswoman said: “We are working to formally identify the man.”
