Man rescued after Carlisle river bank fall

An elderly man was rescued by firefighters after falling down a river bank.

The man had slipped down the bank near Etterby Road, Carlisle, and emergency services were called at about 8.20pm yesterday.

The fire crew used an evacuation chair and lines to rescue the man before handing him into the care of ambulance services.
