Man made threat to kill probation officer, Carlisle court told

A man accused of threatening to kill a Carlisle probation officer has appeared before a judge at the city’s Crown Court.

Christopher Williams is alleged to have made the threat to kill James Joseph (Jack) Downie while talking to psychiatric nurse Helen Askins on April 18.

The 34-year-old has not yet been asked to enter a plea to the charge.

But Judge Barbara Forrester yesterday agreed to transfer the case to be heard at Newcastle Crown Court instead.

Williams, who used to live in Mardale Close, Penrith, but has recently had an address in Wolsey Drive, Newton, Cleveland, will next appear in court on Tyneside on August 13.

In the meantime he was banned from contacting Mr Downie and from coming into Cumbria.
