A man who admitted harassing his now estranged wife and making two offensive phone calls to two other people has been jailed for 13 weeks.
Magistrates in Carlisle imposed the sentence after hearing that David Piercy, 52, had told probation staff he did not want to wear an electronic tag because it might interfere with his work as an on-call motor mechanic.
The court heard how Piercy harassed his estranged wife on several occasions between February 25 and August 5.
Pam Ward, prosecuting, said that Alison Hoban was so upset after one argument that she left their home in her dressing gown.
On another occasion he followed her car to her work in north Carlisle and when she got out he started to shout at her. She then contacted the police.
Piercy, of George Street, Langholm, admitted a harassment charge and two counts of sending an offensive message on August 4 to two people. He apologised to the court for his behaviour and said that divorce proceedings are underway.
Magistrates sent him to prison for nine weeks for the harassment charge.
A two-year restraining order was also made, prohibiting any contact with his estranged wife.
